Empowering students is not just a goal - it is a reality. Empowering means to take something that already exists within oneself and give it life, legs and vision. It is not the insistence of a teacher's ideals upon a student. It is the exposing and engaging of undermined gifts and talents for their greatest calling.
Engaging environments enable learning at all levels. Students are expected to be students of learning while teachers are expected to be students of teaching. Engaging in relationships to bring about the fruits of synergy between students and teachers; engaging the mind to expand our awareness of the limitless possibilities of learning.
Like it or not, the measure of our success is not based on a percentage, score, scantron or a diploma with some signatures on it. The true measure of success is how well students thrive in the real world. An athlete who completes training exercises yet never sees his day in the ring or on the court has a wealth of potential, yet nowhere to display its value or to contribute. The purpose of education is to prepare the mind for success beyond the classroom.
